A. Supervisor’s
comments:
1. June
revenues
Total about the same as last year,
with some interesting variations:
-Building permits and fees down
-Town garbage bags down
-Scale and land fill revenue at dump down
-Fines up
2. Recent Real
Estate company’s sale of its property is not exempt from 2% tax.
3. Ram’s
Head Inn
Owners have filed appeal with ZBA
re finding that they had to seek special exception for change of usage.
Applicants’ position is now that the switch in operation is not a change
usage.
Now saying will also do Detox in addition to Rehab.
4. Fireworks
Permit will probably be approved.
B.
Benacerraff Dock in Dering Harbor
Over 200 feet length, beyond code,
also width, but this is a repair not a new dock.
Waterways Management Advisory Committee met and voted in favor
unanimously
Board will act on this on Friday.
C.
Wisniewski Dock on
Silver
Beach
Want to create a Jet Ski float attached to dock.
WMAC voted no unanimously
D.
Geothermal Systems
Review of report by outside
expert.
Should there be a “time out” from allowing future geothermal systems?
6-9 months moratorium?
WAC is going to discuss.
Issue of going through the clay and impact on the
Island’s
water.
Green Committee also will discuss.
E.
Application Fees
Permit, building, special etc.
fees.
Are they too high? Step increases based on costs of projects too great?
Ed Brown: 8500 square foot and above special exemption permits should
generate special fees--$2,500? General support for this.
F.
Underground Fuel Tanks
Problem of leakage and damage to
environment.
State credit to reduce cost of removal had expired.
County may get involve
Some towns have instigated a rebate program.
Question if
Shelter
Island should
do something?
Not a great time for the Town to be adding expenditures.
Green Committee will explore and will probably start a voluntary program
with a strong educational component. Also remind homeowners that with
the price of oil, a large leak can be quite costly not only in fines and
restitution costs, but also the lost oil.
