Minutes of the April 13, 2008 Board Meeting

Board members in attendance were: Cathy Kenny, Ann Brunswick, Phyllis Gates, Janalyn Travis-Messer

Non-Board members in attendance were:Tullia Limarzi

The business meeting was convened at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Pres. C. Kenny.

Minutes from the last meeting: Minutes from the meeting held on March 15, 2008, were approved by PGates with no changes.

Treasurers Report: Checking account balance is $3,377.10. Education Found. Balance is $2,707.60.

State PMP of $229.50 was paid. National PMP bill for $ 673.40 received, not paid.
Separate line on future budgets will be created for KYT and events.
Programs: OnShore Luncheon a success. Approx 109 guests, 105 paid. Income $2,640, Expenses $2,380.79. Lions Club payment for 6 students @ .$20 ea still expected. TLimarzi will call.

Water Resources Comm. CKenny. Letters will be sent to Town Board and Town committees to ask for participation in a forum to discuss the status of water, quality and quantity.

Memorial for Betsy Jacobson. CKenny. April 19 1 p.m. Set up is at 11:45 a.m. at Legion Hall. Cara Loriz will send a photographer. PG sent a press release. Refreshments will be cookies, coffee, tea.

School Board Forum. JT-Messer. May 4, 2 p.m. School auditorium. Auditorium is booked. Sandy Krolik will assist and asking new member Shirin Marefat to help. There are approx 15 candidates but will know after April 21. The format options were discussed. Giving each candidate a total time to discuss his or her platform may be the best with such a large crowd. Do not want them all answering the same question. Questions from the audience will be written on cards and a group of 3 members includ ABrunswick. A moderator has not been chosen at this time. There will be 1 quarter page ad and Ch. 22 Mary Ellen McGayhey will be asked to film the event. Details of letters to candidates, supplies and dates of press releases were discussed. CKenny provided a book she put together from last year’s event. John Kaasik will be asked re: the head sets in addition to microphones.

A School Budget Review meeting is scheduled for April 14 with Sharon Clifford, Barbara Warren, Katherine Garrison and Peter Munson. The budget goes to the School Board the evening of the 14th for approval.


Energy Forum. TLimarzi. April 26th Public Library 1 p.m. Guest speaker Robert Strauss. Will use the sandwich board CKenny created, discussed the Press Release and calendar entries to paper.

Annual Meeting. CKenny. June 21, GBCC confirmed. Guest speakers were discussed and Miriam Peskowitz will be asked by TLimarzi to speak on her new book. Bylaws will be voted on first so new board members can be voted on to increase board.

Communications: KYT Printing price of $4,300 per 1000 copies is the current estimates. Further discussion will take place at the May meeting. Donations are still being solicited.

Newsletter. TLimarzi. Last proofing to be done. Will come out quarterly starting in May. Sam Lebowitz will handle layout.

Observer Corps. PGAtes. More volunteers are needed. CKenny, ABrunswick and JTMesser agree to call members to line up additional Observer Corps volunteers. JT-Messer will proof all notes before being submitted to website.

Membership: Total of 82 members. 3 members were supposed to be family memberships. National Database will be updated to reflect as such.

Membership Directory: Ready to go to printer for Annual Meeting. 99 listings of members and contributors. 59 profiles vs. 32 in previous edition.

New Business: Not ordering the LWVNY Voter Guides.

Does anyone have the scrap book Mimi Brennan has created for the LWVSI since its inception?

The next monthly business meeting will be held on Sunday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. At CKenny’s house.
